In the field of the Earth Sciences there is a smart Golden Road OA publisher, which originated from a Max-Planck institute: http://publications.copernicus.org/objectives.html and which is running a transparent public peer review process accompanied by a public interactive discussion on submitted papers. Who is interested in details may view the presentation "Interactive Open Access Publishing & Collaborative Peer Review for improved scientific communication and quality assurance" of an editor in chief given at the last year's open access days in Berlin: http://open-access.net/fileadmin/OAT/Poeschl_OAT_Berlin2008_up6.pdf (700 kByte) In my opinion this is a convincing way of Golden Road OA.
