And Mr. Krichel is welcome to inspect the voluminous files that document the peer review process as it is carried out by Penn State University Press for every book published here. There is a ton of "empirical evidence" here for him to examine as to the utility of peer review of books. We do not keep on file the external reports solicited by the editors of our scholarly journals, which are kept in their own editorial offices, so an element of trust is involved here. We would, of course, take very seriously any evidence, such as a Davis-type expose, that the editorial standards of our journals were not being upheld in the manner we expect.
