Some cross-posting here. I am working with the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education on a project to research the marketing of books, especially online marketing, published by university presses. The project is supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The aim of the project is to attempt to identify means by which univesity presses can improve their book sales and hence strengthen their financial condition. A summary of the project is on the MITE Web site: http://montereyinstitute.org. The specific page is http://www.montereyinstitute.org/pdf/Mellon%20Grant%20Press%20Release_11-4-08.pdf We would like to hear from university press directors and others in the value chain of press publishing. A special email address has been set up for the project: miteupressproject@gmail.com. I hope to hear from interested parties. Joe Esposito
