8th International Bielefeld Conference 2006 7 - 9 February 2006 in Bielefeld, Germany +Academic Library and Information Services: New Paradigms for the Digital Age + ***Key questions to library and information service managers:*** +Do you believe, that library managers are responsible to prepare their institutions for the future, in a rapidly changing environment? +Do you agree, that libraries are under increasing pressure do justify their resources (staff, budget) within their institutions? +Do you feel, there is an increasing gap between what libraries traditionally offer (databases, catalogues) and what our scholars and students prefer (search engines)? +Are you looking for colleagues and experts, who have discovered similar problems and are working on concepts and solutions? ...then you should attend the shortly upcoming Bielefeld Conference! The conference focus is on "Services", the key paradigm for all library activities in the future. ++"Information Services" will design services and interfaces by taking the perspective of the end-user. This leads libraries to solutions available on the World Wide Web, the global service platform for the commercial, public and increasingly the academic sector. Libraries could partner up with service providers like Google, Yahoo or Microsoft, by integrating their services into the local service portfolio. --- In Bielefeld you can talk both to senior Google Scholar and Microsoft representatives ++The increasing diversity of services requires much stronger collaboration also within the library community, on a national and international scale. Bielefeld brings many library managers with multiple experiences and backgrounds from a wide range of countries together. ++Service planning is not specific for libraries. Experts will share with you ideas and existing concepts from the commercial world, including impact analysis and the uses of data warehouses. ++For the first time the Conference has included one slot of parallel sessions to address hot topics in the framework of hands-on workshops: 1. Archiving, 2. Management Tools and 3. Networking of Institutional Repositories. Project managers from a variety of countries will share their very real and practical experiences in these areas with you. ***Be with us, when we welcome Lynne Brindley, Chief Executive of the British Library, to give her keynote.*** The programme, abstracts and the current lists of participants are available on the conference website at: http://conference.ub.uni-bielefeld.de/. You are cordially invited to register online or through fax (+49-521-106-4052).
