*apologies for cross-posting. 10 May 2005 Margaret Thatcher once famously said that there is no such thing as society. Well there is now! The Academy of the Social Sciences, which represents the UK social sciences, has awarded the publishing contract for its major new journal, Society, to T&F informa. Society will be published from 2006 under the Routledge imprint, which has been relaunched for the 21st century as the world's leading social science imprint. Society will: * Provide a focus for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research across the social sciences. * Promote the social sciences and represent current trends. * Provide a digest of the most important issues within the social sciences. * Provide a forum for debate on the intellectual and economic future. * And provide critical reflection nationally and internationally. Jo Campling, on behalf of the Academy's Publications Committee commented: "Size matters! We want the leading society publisher to publish for the Academy - T&F informa can deliver everything we want globally, effectively, efficiently and with maximum return." About the Academy The Academy is composed of 348 Academicians and 43 Learned Societies. Most of the Learned Societies in the Social Sciences in the United Kingdom are represented within the Academy. The Academy responds to Government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community, organises meetings about social science for practitioners and seminars on topics that span social science disciplines, and sponsors a number of schemes that promote social science and enhance its value to society.
