SAGE Publications Launches Advanced Journal Platform with Stanford's
HighWire Press

Thousand Oaks, California and London, United Kingdom, June 4, 2004 - SAGE
Publications announced today the development of its new online search
platform. Powered by Stanford University's HighWire Press, the new
platform will launch in September 2004. The platform will host all SAGE
journals in both the social sciences and STM disciplines, providing
institutions with premier search technology, toll-free linking features, a
social science specific taxonomy, and enhanced subscription options for
their journal collections.

The new platform will dramatically enhance the functionality of SAGE
online journals. HighWire features are developed with constant feedback
from librarians and readers and provide flexible and customizable
searching, browsing by topic based on peer-reviewed subject taxonomies,
PDA downloading options, and a high level of reader customization such as
favorite journals, linking tools, search re-execution and e-mail alerts.

Not only will SAGE become the publisher with the largest number of
journals hosted by HighWire, but it will also be adding the most
substantial collection of social science titles, including a large number
of major society journals.

"SAGE Publications is one of the leading independent scholarly publishers
with an international reputation for serving the academic community,"
commented Richard Newman, Associate Director of HighWire Press. "We are
honored that SAGE has chosen to work with HighWire to host their
electronic journals."

"The journals on HighWire are highly respected and HighWire itself is
state- of-the-art in online sophistication. They are helping shape the
electronic future of scholarly communication," said Blaise Simqu,
Executive Vice President of SAGE Publications. "We believe that our
experience in the field, our dedication to disseminating research, and the
comprehensiveness of our publication portfolio will meet the evolving
demands of an increasingly digital publishing environment."

SAGE Publications is carefully managing the transition of its journal
content from its current host, Ingenta, to HighWire Press. This will
ensure that the content migration is seamless to subscribing institutions,
users, and intermediaries.

SAGE Publications will be inviting academic, corporate, and governmental
librarians to preview the new platform and to provide advice and feedback
via the SAGE Library Committee.
