NISO-TxCDK RFID Institute October 25-26 - Early Bird Registration until Sept. 23rd

NISO and the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge at the University of North
Texas are bringing you a 2-day Institute on RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification). We have tapped an array of experts to examine the use of
RFID in business and the library and book world; this event will inform
you about the benefits and opportunities this technology offers and the
standards needed to maximize performance. RFID goes way beyond replacing a
barcode - this is about transforming the business! Join us in October! The
Institute will be held at UNT (Denton, Texas) on October 25-26. 2005.

The RFID Institute will examine current issues in global RFID,
interoperability standards, and ROI, as well as implementations in
industry, manufacturing, distribution, and information centers/libraries.
The large number of suppliers and RFID solutions companies in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area are contributing to this program. Participants will
also include NISO members from information centers, information
technology, publishers, libraries, and booksellers.

. Discover the value proposition that justifies the expense of RFID
technology and calculate the return on investment

. Explore the standards needed to maximize the implementation
opportunities in the library and book industry.

. Understand the challenges to item level encoding; what practices can
safeguard patron privacy.

. Learn about multiple RFID applications in commercial settings to uncover
new ideas -- what lessons can be trail blazers? You will also learn about
library implementations and applications in circulation, inventory, and
collection management.

Librarians in leadership and planning roles, systems vendors, publishers
and booksellers, and RFID hardware and software vendors are all invited to
learn and contribute to the dialogue.
