Authorized Users Question
Forwarded message: From: David_Mirchin@silverplatter.com Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 16:47:23 -0400 Subject: Liblicense question Hello, As a publisher, I would like feedback from librarians/users about the definition of "authorized users" for internet subscriptions, particularly for consortia, and for unlimited simultaneous user licenses which permit remote access. What specific language can you suggest which address the publisher's interest that the entire world cannot access the information (and therefore undermine the revenue from those existing subscriptions)? What relationship to the universities is reasonable to specify in internet agreements? Is it reasonable to permit alumni to access the databases? In many cases, this can increase the potential pool tenfold. For consortia, are any physical limitations of access reasonable? For example, for a New York State consortium which will be accessing over the internet, is it reasonable that the access be limited to computers in the State of New York? In particular, I am looking for specific language to define "authorized users" in the consortia context, and for internet usage. Thank you.
