Re: Lexis-Nexis Analysis
The University of Washington just had a presentation this morning from
Carol Johnson about the new program(s), and although I can't help with the
question of how this differs from what we've seen, wanted to pass along
the information that pricing for their *WEB* service, called "Lexis-Nexis
UNIVerse" will very likely be based on FTEs, and not "mixing and
matching" of "slices" of the database, as the "Academic" program available
now is. As I understand it, that is partly because (as we know) a "port"
isn't necessarily a meaningful entity in the web environment. Carol said
that pricing for the web service should be out by ALA, and will likely
include web access as well as a small number of "ports" for the full
service -- i.e. access through Lexis-Nexis software, with all the
searching bells and whistles that the web service won't have -- at least
at first.
Because of this, we aren't going to try to figure out a strategy until we
see the web pricing.
