I use google analytics to check many items - what pages are getting looked at or not - yes. It is also helpful for when you do a special effort of some kind - send a press release, do a bulk email, make an announcement to your customers or users - to see spikes in visits as a result. Google provides a "dashboard" with an overview of all the types of activity you can look at and I find it intuitive and easy to use. There is also a site overlay feature which shows you your page(s) and it overlays figures on each link on the page to represent the % of people who were on that page who clicked through that link. Sort of demonstrates dead areas or links of little interest (regardless of how great I thought they were...) My web person set it up and I can echo Pippa below that it did not seem to be a big deal at all. I'll repeat others' comments - it's fairly straightforward to setup, powerful, and free. The data regarding entry and exit are particularly useful, as is the amount of time spent on each page.
