I am looking for hard data that show the impact of translated international editions of US based English language STM journals on direct paid subscription sales of these English language editions. Does the translated edition cannibalize direct paid sales of the English language edition? Or does it make the pie bigger and increase paid subscription sales? As far as anyone knows, is there any hard data that proves this, one way or the other? I am thinking that the clinicians are more likely to read the translated edition while the researcher will be more likely to read the English version. But I never remember seeing any hard data.
