Hello, I am the new Director of Library Services at a small college. We are considering moving from print course readers to online course readers. In the past, our copyright clearance has been sought by a 3rd party course packet printer. I have spoken to the CCC regarding their new "blanket license" which would, supposedly, cover the full-text material in the databases we license as well as our print holdings. Since we are so small, we rely heavily on a interlibrary loan and electronic document delivery service run by our "flagship" university. I understand that in order to acquire copyright clearance, we can manually seek permission via CCC's website for these materials. We have very few staff and have also considered outsourcing the copyright clearance of our materials. In particular, we have spoken with Xanedu who have quoted us a fairly high price. I am wondering what experiences any of you may have had regarding copyright clearance for electronic materials (and making the shift to all-electronic course reserves). My past experience is with larger institutions who still rely on print course readers for the majority of their reserves (do any of you know the reasoning for continuing to create print readers...is it a bad idea to go all-electronic?) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Carrie Vrabel Director of Library Services Antioch University Los Angeles 310-578-1080 ex. 334 carrie_vrabel@antiochla.edu
