**With apologies for cross-posting** For Immediate Release: June 18, 2007 Chicago Journals partners with American Historical Association to publish American Historical Review The University of Chicago Press and the American Historical Association (AHA) are pleased to announce a new cooperative agreement to publish the American Historical Review. Since its inception in 1895, the American Historical Review has been the journal of record for the historical profession, maintaining and expanding its original breadth of coverage to include all fields of history. "Fostering and disseminating scholarship in all fields of history has been the highest priority of the American Historical Association since its founding in 1884," said Arnita A. Jones, Executive Director of the AHA. "We now look forward to enhancing this tradition by joining with the University of Chicago Press, whose long commitment to excellence in scholarship parallels our own." The AHA was chartered by an act of Congress in 1889 to oversee and protect the historiographical legacy of the United States. The American Historical Review has been self-published for the last thirty-eight years and is the only journal to bring together scholarship from every major field of historical study, featuring= scholarly articles that have an appeal beyond a particular specialty and reviews of books and films determined to be of greatest relevance to professional historians. "In selecting a Press to represent the American Historical Review we sought an institution with an impeccable scholarly reputation and a deep commitment to scholarly journals. The University of Chicago Press is outstanding on both counts. Indeed, in this age of increasing commercialization even in academic publishing, Chicago's list of books and journals continues to impress the community of scholars with the seriousness of its titles," wrote Robert A. Schneider (Indiana University), Editor of the American Historical Review. "The editors and staff of the AHR are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the University of Chicago Press, a relationship that will be a credit to both institutions." "We are very pleased and honored to be selected to publish the American Historical Review. The partnership between the AHA and Chicago Journals reflects a shared dedication to providing lasting scholarship that is accessible and discoverable, both today and for generations to come," said Nawin Gupta, Journals Division Manager, University of Chicago Press. The American Historical Review will be published by Chicago Journals from the October 2007 issue, with five issues per year. A comprehensive archive of articles dating back to the journal's inception will be available on Chicago Journals Online, www.journals.uchicago.edu.
