Emerald Celebrates 40 Years In Publishing -- 2007 marked by
special events, awards, and growth in journal portfolio -- UNITED
KINGDOM, January 2, 2007.  Emerald Group Publishing is pleased to
announce its celebration of forty years in academic publishing in
2007.  The milestone will be observed throughout the anniversary
year and will include special events at conferences, the new
Welcome to Emerald program for library science students, an
expanded offering of awards, and the launch of eight new
journals.

Emerald was established in 1967 by a group of senior academics
who, dissatisfied with the international publishing distribution
outlets of the time, formed MCB University Press, an alternative
publishing house that focused on niche management disciplines
including strategy, change management and international
marketing. In 2001 MCB University Press adopted the name Emerald
as its new organizational identity, stemming from the working
title of its flagship product Emerald (the Electronic Management
Research Library Database).

Emerald will host special anniversary events at international
conferences throughout the year. Customers and members of the
academic community will be invited to join celebrations at the
American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter and Annual meetings,
IFLA, and the Academy of Management among others.

2007 will mark the first full year of the Welcome to Emerald
Program for ALA accredited library and information science
graduate schools located in North America. The Program provides
free use of all Emerald journals for faculty and students during
collection development course studies, and sponsors the MLS
Student Best Paper Award with the winner receiving sponsored
attendance to the ALA Annual Conference.

Emerald will again be holding its annual Awards for Excellence in
twelve disciplines, with outstanding paper, highly commended, and
leading editor awards each sponsored by an Emerald journal.  An
Outstanding Service Award will be presented, along with the
popular Research Fund Awards.

Following the acquisition of seven titles last year, eight new
journals will be launched during 2007 marking an exciting time of
growth in the Emerald portfolio. These titles will include
Chinese Management Studies; Direct Marketing: An International
Journal; International Journal of Culture, Tourism and
Hospitality Research; International Journal of Energy Sector
Management; Journal of Enterprising Communities: People and
Places in the Global Economy; Multicultural Education &
Technology Journal; and Transforming Government: People, Process
and Policy.
