Wiley Announces Major Redesign of Online Reference Works
Interface

Hoboken, N.J., July 26, 2006 -- Global publisher John Wiley &
Sons, Inc., today announced a major redesign for new and select
backlist reference works on Wiley InterScience
(www.interscience.wiley.com/reference), the company's online
publishing platform. As part of an ongoing effort to aid
researchers and professionals by providing more efficient search
capabilities and new options, the redesign is the first step of a
new initiative to upgrade the company's online reference works
over the next two years.

Offering a more user-friendly interface, the redesign features
improved functionality including:

Expanded Article Display Options: All articles are now displayed
in a full-screen HTML view; readership levels (Introductory,
Intermediate, and Advanced) are prominently displayed next to
article titles for select reference works

Enhanced Search Capabilities: Search terms are now highlighted
within an article; advanced search screen now offers checkboxes
for article type, such as standard article, keynote article, and
protocol

Easier Subject Browsing: Browse by title is more intuitive with
the addition of a "tree" design that lists all articles in the
selected topic and a "Collapse All" link that enables a quick
reset

Features currently offered for designated online reference works,
such as HTML and PDF article formats, Pay-Per-View (which allows
individuals without a subscription to purchase reference work
articles for $25) and ArticleSelect (which is a token-based
service that provides access to articles in non-subscribed
reference works to licensed Wiley InterScience customers), will
still be available under the redesign.

Launching in conjunction with the interface redesign is
Encyclopedia of Life Sciences
(www.interscience.wiley.com/mrw/els), the first online major
reference to be published under the new redesign. Originally
launched online and in a 20-volume print set in 2001 by Nature
Publishing Group, this resource spans the entire spectrum of life
science research. Since acquiring the resource in 2004, Wiley has
added and updated articles, as well as gradually incorporated all
the material from Encyclopedia of the Human Genome. Encyclopedia
of Life Sciences now features nearly 4,000 specially commissioned
and peer-reviewed articles written by more than 5,000 scientists.
Focusing on the molecular and cellular life sciences, the
reference includes biochemistry methods and techniques, material
on applied science, biographies, and general interest articles on
ethics and the history of science.

Other upcoming online reference works that will be published
under the new redesign include Materials Science and Technology,
Handbook of Vibrational Spectroscopy, Encyclopedia of Analytical
Chemistry, Encyclopedia of Magnetic Resonance, Encyclopedia of
Actuarial Science, Wiley Handbook of Current and Emerging Drug
Therapies, Encyclopedia of Molecular Cell Biology and Molecular
Medicine, Fiesers' Reagents for Organic Synthesis, Wiley
Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Engineering, Wiley
Encyclopedia of Clinical Trials, and Encyclopedia of
Environmetrics.

All key online reference works currently available on Wiley
InterScience will also be upgraded to the new design over the
next nine months, starting with the relaunch of Encyclopedia of
Statistical Sciences in September 2006. Other key titles included
in the retroactive redesign are Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of
Chemical Technology, Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial
Chemistry, Current Protocols, Encyclopedia of Inorganic
Chemistry, and Encyclopedia of Genetics, Genomics, Proteomics and
Bioinformatics.
