Is online access to the Duke journals available on a permanent-retention basis (in which a subscription in year X provides permanent access to the content published that year)? Leased online access is great from most patrons' point of view, but it involves a gamble: that the library will have enough money to pay for access in future years. (From http://dukeupress.edu/library/eDuke/FAQs.html#timeperiod, it seems that Duke *Ddoes* provide perpetual access. So maybe that's not a consideration, after all.) Duke's withdrawal from Project Muse may also be a factor. Of course the Duke back volumes are still available through Project Muse, which suggests that Duke is reliable in keeping its commitments. Still, the withdrawal from Project Muse may have given the impression that Duke U.P. is less reliable in its behavior more generally -- less predictable and therefore less trustworthy.
