This has to be one of the best and most succinct ( or are those one and the same? ) e-mails I have ever read on this listserv and I believe hits the proverbial nail on the head. The only thing I might be so bold to add is, not only is the number of authors not a finite resource nor in research universities is the pressure on them to publish.
