NISO and the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge at the University of North Texas are bringing you a 2-day Institute on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). We have tapped an array of experts to examine the use of RFID in business and the library and book world; this event will inform you about the benefits and opportunities this technology offers and the standards needed to maximize performance. RFID goes way beyond replacing a barcode - this is about transforming the business! Join us in October! The Institute will be held at UNT (Denton, Texas) on October 25-26. 2005. Participants will also include NISO members from information centers, information technology, publishers, libraries, and booksellers. . Discover the value proposition that justifies the expense of RFID technology and calculate the return on investment . Explore the standards needed to maximize the implementation opportunities in the library and book industry. . Understand the challenges to item level encoding; what practices can safeguard patron privacy. . Learn about multiple RFID applications in commercial settings to uncover new ideas -- what lessons can be trail blazers?
