Thanks to everyone who has posted on the subject of the SPARC documents. We'll take another look at the placement of these documents on our web
site and make sure they are in a logical location. Naturally, we are
interested in wide dissemination of each of these brochures, though
Anthony is right -- in such a fast-moving environment, some may seem
dated. We're in the midst of evaluating the best way to keep them
current. In the meantime, we appreciate the interest that's been shown,
and would welcome further comments. Feel free to write to me directly at
alison@arl.org.

On the front page of the SPARC site there is a section called Resources. In that section there are links to Create Change (updated November 2003), Declaring Independence (dated 2001 and not obviously updated) and Gaining Independence (2002). This is on the first page of the SPARC site just belowWhat's New. These documents, which I read and reviewed (for Learned Publishing) when they came out are (as you see) nor more recent than the Raym Crow document. Even from my point of view there is a great deal to be said for at least three of these documents especially Gaining Independence. It does seem however odd that the seminal works on repositories have been relegated to three clicks away and one has to wonder whether the fact that the views expressed (not now favored by current orthodoxy) has something to do with this.
