This should be of interest to liblicense members. *** Impressive 2nd Year Growth for ALPSP Learned Journals Collection The ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (ALJC) in partnership with Swets has expanded dramatically for its second year and now offers a range of 430 titles from 44 diverse international publishers. This unique initiative forms part of Swets' far-reaching e-journals management drive. The ALJC (www.alpsp-collection.org) enables small and medium-sized publishers to package their journals under a single umbrella licence, pricing model and delivery platform. The online collection was established in 2003 through a unique collaboration between the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), Swets Information Services and Extenza, Swets' publisher outsourcing services division. Since its launch, Swets has coordinated ALJC's complex licensing and legal structure and serves as its worldwide sales, marketing and access channel. Although working against the clock, Swets global sales staff signed 29 ALJC licenses for the period 2004/2005/2006. The ALJC offers libraries the benefit of a single negotiation. Rather than dealing individually with a large number of different small publishers, their users can access all these high quality full-text e-journals directly via SwetsWise Online Content. The ALJC titles are available in both the Full Collection and in sub collections. Further to subject specific packages, established last year in the areas of Medicine & Life Science, Science & Technology, and the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, additional sub collections are being compiled. Pricing is based on a percentage of the ALJC's current collective value and is guaranteed for 3 years. Both print-plus-electronic and e-only options are available, as well as special consortial arrangements. Customers may migrate from one to the other during their 3-year licence agreement period. Detailed pricing and licence information is available on the ALJC website (www.alpsp-collection.org). Sally Morris, Chief Executive of ALPSP, said: "The ALPSP Learned Journals Collection in partnership with Swets is proving to be of considerable value both to smaller publishers and to the libraries that want to license their journals. The dramatic growth for the Collection's second year is a clear indication of its value to publishers, and can only make the Collection more attractive to libraries as well." Steven Hartman, Swets Information Services' Commercial Director, said: "The continuing success of Swets' partnership with ALPSP in the Learned Journals Collection demonstrates the dynamic role of the subscription agent in the rapidly changing world of E-Journals." The ALJC is accessible via SwetsWise and contains 430 journals from the following 44 publishers: Academy of Traumatology, Akademiai Kiado RT, ALPSP, American Institute of Biological Sciences, American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Australian Academic Press, Austrian Academy of Sciences Press, BC Decker, Beech Tree Publishing, British Psychological Society, Carden Jennings Publishing Co.
