Swets' 'Gateway to China' brings EDP Sciences and IOS Press e-journals to
Chinese libraries

Swets Information Services announced today that it will make a large
electronic journal selection of EDP Sciences and IOS Press available to
Chinese users via a rapid broadband connection with SwetsWise Online
Content. To enable this, Swets forged a unique deal with CERNET, the
Chinese academic Internet service provider, earlier this year. The
delivery of rapid electronic access is part of Swets' 'Gateway to China'
package, which also includes Sales & Marketing and Market Intelligence
support for publishers targeting the fast-growing Chinese market.

With an office in Beijing, Swets has been active in the Chinese market
since 1997 and is working closely together with all major players. S.C.
Chen, Swets Information Services' Manager of Greater China, remarked: "We
are delighted with this latest development in our business relationships
with EDP Sciences and IOS Press and are convinced this will help them to
build their businesses in the Chinese STM-market, which is expected to
grow by an additional 40% during the next three years. Clearly our Chinese
customers will be the real winners from this partnership, which will bring
them rapid access to the electronic content from these publishers without
additional access charges."

Swets' 'Gateway to China' package is part of a larger global e-journal
management drive. Martijn Adorf, Regional Director for Asia Pacific, said:
"Swets is globally investing in a comprehensive series of new tools and
improved services, based on local market needs. Our goal is to reduce the
complexity and expense involved in e-journal management and to simplify
the entire chain from administration to access."

Jean-Marc Quilb, General Director of EDP Sciences, commented: "This
partnership is of great importance for EDP Sciences, since it is a gateway
to the Chinese market. We have noticed that although the Chinese market is
booming and the number of IP addresses connected with our e-subscriptions
is growing rapidly, we are not gaining subscribers. Swets is a key partner
for EDP Sciences in growing our business and I appreciate this kind of
well-targeted initiative, which perfectly meets our sales needs as a
medium-sized publisher."

Popke Huizinga, Deputy Director of IOS Press, said: "We are very pleased
our customers in China are able to access our electronic journals through
Swets Information Services' initiative. The involvement of Swets' local
experts makes us confident that the problems the libraries have been
facing with accessing foreign electronic information will soon be over."
