SPARC-ACRL Forum: "Scholarly Communication in the Humanities: Does Open Access Apply?"
ALA Annual Meeting, Orlando, Fla.
Saturday, June 26, 2004, 4:00-5:30 pm
Orange County Convention Center 308 A/B

The skyrocketing subscription prices for science, technology, and medicine
(STM) journals, and development of open access publishing in response are
starting to shake the foundations of scholarly communication. The
implications for the humanities are far from certain, given its different
funding sources and communication style. Join an expert panel as they
consider the place of their own innovations in scholarly communication in
suggesting the form and promise of open access in the humanities.

The speakers:

-John M. Unsworth, Dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

-James P. Niessen, VP Research & Publications, H-Net & World History Librarian at Rutgers University

-Edward N. Zalta, Principal Editor of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy & Senior Research Scholar at the Center for the Study of Language and Information, Stanford University

This event is open to the public and no reservations are necessary.
