Advanced Licensing Workshop
June 14-16, 2004
Hotel Grand Pacific
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Sponsored by COPPUL (Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries)
Schedule: � The workshop begins at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 14
(registration will begin at 12:30 p.m.) and concludes at noon on
Wednesday, June 16.
Purpose and Overview:
This workshop, which will include copyright and legal information specific to Canada, will:
1. deepen participants' understanding of license terms and conditions through several hands-on license review exercises;
2. help participants understand, evaluate, and minimize the risks in licensing electronic resources;
3. provide strategies to participants on how to protect their legal and business interests when working with consortia; and
4. review strategies for getting past no in difficult negotiations.
Topics covered will include:

����������� Understanding Legal Language
����������� Legislative Update
����������� Pricing Models and Strategies
����������� Getting Past No
Optional group discussion sessions with the trainers will be offered on
Tuesday evening. � Session topics will be:
A. Consortia
B. Legal Issues
C. Process and User Issues
Target Audience:
The workshop is open to librarians who have participated in ARL's License
Review and Negotiation workshop or who have had a minimum of one year's
experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements for their library
or consortium.
