Best wishes, Alison Buckholtz, SPARC alison@arl.org ____________________________________________________________ SPARC/ACRL Forum: "Open Access: Getting from Here to There" ALA Midwinter Meeting, San Diego, CA Saturday, January 10, 2004, 4:30-6:00 pm Convention Center Rm. 15 A/B It's hard to argue with the goal of open access to scholarly research articles. But how do we go about realigning firmly entrenched traditions and financial models to exploit the tremendous potential of our networked digital environment? The forum's expert panel looks for strategies and answers by concentrating on: * the risks of open access publishing, * cost recovery measures for open-access publishers, and * the crucial role of libraries in generating momentum. The panel will be moderated by Jim Neal, SPARC's Chairman. Panelists include Helen Doyle, Director of Development and Strategic Alliances, Public Library of Science; Henry Hagedorn, Editor, Journal of Insect Science; and Joseph Branin, Director of Libraries, Ohio State University. This event is open to the public and no reservations are necessary. For more information: sparc@arl.org.
