Members of this list may be interested in the work of the UK RoMEO Project which has compiled a list of 80 journal publishers' copyright transfer agreements with specific regard to whether they allow author self-archiving: <http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/ls/disresearch/romeo/index.html> The purpose of the RoMEO Project, funded by the UK JISC, was to investigate all the IPR issues relating to the self-archiving of eprints by academics. One of the principle outputs is the development of some simple rights metadata by which academics could protect their eprints in an open-access environment. We intend to publish 6 studies, 3 of which are already available from the RoMEO web site's "Deliverables" page. These include: o RoMEO Studies 1: The impact of copyright ownership on academic author self-archiving o RoMEO Studies 2: How academics wish to protect their open-access research papers o RoMEO Studies 3: How academics expect to use open-access research papers Best wishes Elizabeth Gadd ************************************************* Elizabeth Gadd, Research Associate & Editor, Library and Information Research Department of Information Science Loughborough University Loughborough, Leics, LE11 3TU Tel: +44 (0)1509 222178 Fax: +44 (0)1509 223053 Email: E.A.Gadd@lboro.ac.uk ************************************************
