Head of Infrastructure Services As a result of restructuring, and the creation of a new Department of Infrastructure Services, FGCU Library Services is seeking a leader to develop, implement, and assess creative and effective collection and technical services to meet the Guiding Principles and Mission of the University and Library Services. The Head of Infrastructure Services reports to the Associate Director. Provides leadership, mentorship, and oversight for the development and provision of library Infrastructure Services including technical services in an outsourced environment (acquisitions, processing, and cataloging); aspects of collections management (management of library materials budget, oversight of approval plans and other formal purchasing agreements, vendor relations including review of license agreements, and materials preservation); and shared responsibility for Library information technology including migration to a new integrated library management system. Collaborates on digital initiatives and projects that impact library operations. Supervises a department of 3.0 FTE. Serves as a member of the Policy Committee, which enacts Library-wide policy and the Operations Coordination Committee, which is responsible for the overall coordination and communication of Library inter-unit activities. Participates in University and State University System committees. Participates in professional activities and contributes to the development of librarianship. Will participate in credit instruction. Requirements: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent. Experience in collections and/or technical services. Successful supervisory experience. Knowledge of best practices and trends in the profession. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, colleagues, faculty, and students. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong computing and technology experience. Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and to foster that capacity in others. Effective organizational and time management skills. Superior oral and written English language communication skills particularly ability to effectively communicate technical issues to colleagues. Ability to establish goals and priorities and to work with other units in meeting mutual goals. Evidence of interest in professional development activities, including presentation and publication. Preferred: A record of professional and/or scholarly activity. Experience with both collection management and technical services. A record of successfully developing, implementing, and evaluating short-term and long-term projects. Experience with library system migration. Ability to do original cataloging. A second master's degree or higher. Teaching experience. Ability to contribute to the diversity of the organization Located two hours south of Tampa Bay, Ft. FGCU, which opened its doors in 1997, is a state university of the liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies serving undergraduate and master's level students. It is particularly focused on environmental sensitivity, interdisciplinary learning, innovative high quality teaching, and service learning. The Library has 27 full-time employees and a materials budget of $1.2 million. It is the largest in Southwest Florida and is planning for an addition to double its size by 2005. As a member of a statewide consortium, the library is migrating to Aleph, the library management system designed by Ex Libris as the core of the next-generation digital library. APPOINTMENT: This is a non-tenure-earning faculty position with rank and salary commensurate with experience. Salary: $40,000 - negotiable.
