Approximate Starting Salary: $38,555 - $49,150 For information about applying for this position, please visit the Johns Hopkins University Employment Web site at: jobs.jhu.edu. ___________________________ Electronic Resource Acquisitions/Serials Librarian (S01-2587) General Description: Position has primary responsibility for acquisition of electronic resources. Monitors the publishing industry, particularly as regards to trends toward electronic formats. Maintains contact with vendors and publishers to negotiate license agreements and to maintain uninterrupted access to electronic products. Works closely with the Electronic Public Access Librarian in the Resource Services Department to provide access to electronic resources. Works with Resource Services Librarians to facilitate negotiation of licence agreements. Maintains contacts with librarians at other Hopkins libraries to coordinate joint selection and provision of electronic resources. Acts a liaison with University Purchasing for managing licence agreements. Supervises Serials Unit of the Acquisitions Department plus student assistants. Trains support staff and provides on-going problem resolution. Sets work priorities for the unit. Monitors performance of subscription agents. Acts as liaison with Cataloging Department to ensure adequate workflow and problem resolution. Participates as part of departmental managerial team. Work Environment: The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the JohnWork Garrett Library, the George Peabody Library, and the Albert D. Hutzler Undergraduate Reading Room. Its primary constituency is the students and faculty in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and Professional Studies in Business & Education. A key partner in the academic enterprise, the library is a leader in the innovative application of information technology and has implemented notable diversity and organizational development programs. The Libraries prize initiative, creativity, professionalism, and teamwork. Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited program or equivalent education/work experience. At least two years serials experience in a library. Prior experience with electronic publishing and licensing of electronic products. Working knowledge of at least two Western European languages in addition to English. Knowledge of AACR2 and MARC. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and relational database programs such as MS Word, Excel, Access, etc. Proficiency with an integrated library management system. Knowledge of serials industry and publishing practices and trends. Prior supervisory experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work well with colleagues, staff, and external clients. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an ARL library. Knowledge of the Horizon integrated library system. Pamela L.
