Chuck, It is great to know Stephen King made a profit but I am puzzled by the profit calculation which seems to me a little like the cost-recovery models so popular in certain circles. Normally Mr. King hands over his book to the publisher and then it is the job of the publisher. I am sure he does author signings and interviews but I would guess that someone whose prestige has been built up by his collaboration with his past publishers to such a high level does not need to involve himself in promotional exercises if he does not want to. I wonder how much the time he spent on this e-book, other than the writing of it, might be costed at the rate he normally receives in royalties and if there is still a profit. Of course there is also the opportunity cost. While he was doing all the extra work I am projecting he could have written another best seller.
