In light of Neil Posner's recent post, which I saw after I had sent my last message, perhaps it would have been better for me to choose Academic Press, rather than Elsevier, as the example of signing up for all or none of the electronic offerings. From a non-librarian standpoint, Elsevier seems to sound quite willing to adapt policies (but, perhaps not actual prices) which the user community has suggested. But, my main point remains; even while in the throes of your immediate budget problems, please remember to consider the longer term effects of your choices upon quality and scholarship. As David Goodman said, don't substitute what might be poorer quality journals for better ones, just because it is easy to do so. --Peter Boyce-- ____________________________________________ Peter B.
