After close to two years of discussions on regulations relating to Canadian Copyright Act Amendment Bill C-32, proposed copyright regulations were pre-published in the January 30, 1999 issue of The Canada Gazette, Part I. These regulations relate to book importation, ephemeral recordings, and exceptions for schools, libraries, archives and museums. Interested person may make representations regarding these proposed regulations by mid-March, 1999. For further information, see: http://www.pch.gc.ca. Bill C-32, representing the second phase of copyright reform in Canada, was introduced in the Canadian House of Commons in May, 1996 and became law in April, 1997. Certain provisions including some providing exceptions for schools, libraries, archives and museums have not yet been proclaimed, in anticipation of regulations which help clarify the provisions.
