Re: Social Security Numbers and User Authentication

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the university has been adding
a digit to a students Social Security number and then using that as
their university id number (although a student could request a different
number).  Due to increased security concerns, and a recently introduced
bill in the state legislature, the university will stop using modified
Social Security numbers as id numbers for new students after July 1,
1998.
