Publishing and Document Delivery

I just finished reading an article that will be of interest to many on the
liblicense-l list:

Kleiner, Jane P and Hammaker, Charles A. "Libraries 2000: Transforming
Libraries Using Document Delivery, Needs Assessment, and Networked
Resources." College & Research Libraries, July 1997, pp. 355-374.

The article describes ongoing efforts at Louisiana State University to
provide document delivery to students and faculty in lieu of subscriptions
to specific journals. LSU uses UnCover as the document delivery supplier.
These projects have been going on for eight years, beginning with a pilot
project with the LSU Chemistry Department in 1989.

While the article describes one library's approach to the issue, much of
what is said is applicable to our discussion on the future of interlibrary
loan and document delivery in an electronic environment.
