Announcing BIOLOGY OPEN - Facilitating rapid review for accessible research Online Only, Open Access Launching Autumn 2011 The Company of Biologists is pleased to announce BIOLOGY OPEN (BiO), a new online only, Open Access journal publishing original research across all aspects of the biological sciences including cell science, developmental biology and experimental biology. The journal aims to provide rapid publication for peer reviewed, scientifically sound observations and valid conclusions in these allied fields. BIOLOGY OPEN will address some big issues in publishing and is supported by John Gurdon, Alan (Rick) Horwitz, Tim Hunt, Martin Raff and Cheryll Tickle. Authors often find their papers delayed by strict reviewing procedures and multiple submissions: * 64% of authors are concerned about the speed of peer review and publication * 56% of authors feel publication delays harm their paper's impact * 61% of cell science authors face significant challenges finding a home for their papers (Results taken from recent author surveys by The Company of Biologists) By focusing on the timely publication of sound research rather than that with perceived impact or importance, BIOLOGY OPEN is designed to facilitate dialogue and build a valuable body of work supporting the efforts of the research community. The impact of each paper will be decided by the community through usage and discussion. The journal will also consider useful reports of negative results. Authors will be able to submit direct or benefit from our manuscript rapid-transfer system if their original submission was to one of The Company of Biologists' flagship journals, DEVELOPMENT, DISEASE MODELS & MECHANISMS, JOURNAL OF CELL SCIENCE and THE JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGY. Accepted articles will be published immediately online and all articles will be deposited in PubMed Central. The journal will be listed on Open J-Gate and DOAJ. BIOLOGY OPEN ISSN: 2046-6390 will be published on HighWire under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0) To receive pre launch news and emailed table of contents, please email marketing@biologists.com The Company of Biologists, www.biologists.com, Bidder Building, 140 Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0DL, UK Tel +44 (0)1223 426164 Fax +44 (0)1223 426070 Email marketing@biologists.com
