RE: Derivative works?



A derivative work is something different from most of the 
citations, quotations, or commentaries that are part of scholarly 
research, and it's different from most plagiarism as well.  A 
derivative work is one where the original work is "recast, 
transformed, or adapted." Things like translations or 
abridgements are examples of derivative works--there are many 
others.
