The discussion was=20 positive, with a full exchange of views and mutual recognition of=20 the value that each of us contributes to the scholarly=20 communication enterprise. Our two organizations have agreed to=20 work together in the coming months to address our mutual short-=20 and long-term challenges, including an exploration of potential=20 new approaches and evolving publishing models. =A0We look forward=20 to a successful planning and experimentation process that results=20 in mutual agreement that serves all stakeholder groups-NPG, the=20 UC libraries, and the scholar community, thus avoiding the need=20 for the boycott that had been discussed at an earlier stage. We are aware that many in the library, publishing, and academic=20 communities are interested in the outcome of these discussions,=20 and we will provide further updates on our progress as=20 appropriate.
