I've heard of this over the years. One major physics society, I recall, mentioned that its continuing backfile (archives) would be OA...but not its current journal subscriptions. One might cogitate on a quasi-"twist" on this intriguing notion if one considers the backfile journals in EbscoHost that are included after an embargo period on new content. Not the same thing, of course, but in some respects a distant cousin? Bill Cohen
