This announcement about a very distinctive type of journal may be of interest to the Liblicense readers. ***************** Groundbreaking Videourology Journal Launched by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. New Rochelle, NY, February 2, 2010-Videourology(tm) is the first and only videojournal for urologists, publishing fully peer-reviewed surgical and micro-invasive video demonstrations of the latest techniques and technologies used to optimize surgical patient care. Videourology(tm) is Part B of the respected Flagship publication Journal of Endourology published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. (www.liebertpub.com), and is available free online (www.liebertonline.com/journal/vid), to browse and search, through March 1, 2010 to encourage worldwide participation. With the launch of this unique and dynamic new videojournal, videos of important urologic surgical procedures will now be organized and accessible. Videourology is extensively categorized and easily searchable, and includes citation linking to related content. Today's release of Videourology highlights over 20 videos, including many newly digitized Historical Videos of groundbreaking procedures that have not been seen in decades, as well as several cutting-edge procedures. Many more current videos are in peer review and will be published imminently, making Videourology a constantly evolving forum for the latest in urologic minimally invasive techniques and technologies. Master Videos from experts performing important surgical techniques will also be included. The videos can be viewed online and downloaded in Flash, QuickTime(r) format, or as MP4's for access on the iPhone. Comprehensive search options are available including searching by medical condition, anatomy, surgical procedure, surgical device, author, most cited, and most recommended. Videourology is under the editorial leadership of Journal of Endourology Editors-in-Chief Arthur Smith, MD (Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Urology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY) and Ralph Clayman, MD (University of California, Irvine), and Videourology Section Editors Chandru Sundaram, MD (Indiana University School of Medicine) and Mihir M. Desai, MD (University of Southern California). The videojournal offers full peer review and rapid online publication of videos within 2 weeks of acceptance. Each high-resolution video is accompanied by an abstract describing the procedure, and the video runtime, and is fully citable. "Videourology will have a tremendous impact," says Dr. Smith. "Physicians can observe the finer techniques of an operation. They will see exactly how to position the suture, and how to position their hands. Surgeons can view a procedure whenever they want by accessing a video at home or in the office, before scrubbing for surgery, or even in the operating room to refresh their memory." Listen to a podcast (http://www.liebertpub.com/Mcontent/podcasts/Wlcm_to_Videourology.html) in which Dr. Smith shares the remarkable story of how he pioneered the field of videourology 30 years ago, what led to the launch of the journal Videourology, and how this groundbreaking new resource will enhance physician education and improve patient outcomes. _______________________________________________ Thomas J.
