BioMed Central joins CLOCKSS to archive its open access articles January 14, 2010 - CLOCKSS is pleased to announce that it has partnered with BioMed Central, the world's largest open access publisher, to preserve over 60,000 articles in CLOCKSS's geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries around the world. By archiving with CLOCKSS, BioMed Central ensures that its open access articles remain open access forever. If necessary, CLOCKSS will make this content available, under a creative commons license, for free to all scholars around the world. Bev Acreman, Commercial Director for BioMed Central, notes "Because BioMed Central is committed to the preservation and availability of scholarly content through its leading open access publishing program, it is especially pleased to partner with CLOCKSS, an archive that shares this same commitment to open access." CLOCKSS Co-Chair and Executive Director Gordon Tibbitts adds, "CLOCKSS has achieved a rare consensus among libraries and publishers to make orphaned content open access. We share BioMed Central's commitment to open access, and welcome the opportunity to help them maintain this commitment for their journals into the very long term."
