Wiley-Blackwell Adopts Condense and Rotate Printing Process for
Select Journals

Oxford, UK, 4 January 2010 - From the first issues of 2010, ten
journals from Wiley-Blackwell will adopt a 'condense and rotate'
printing process, also known as two-up printing. This means that
they will present two pages of text for every one printed page.
This new approach will reduce the carbon footprint associated
with printing and distributing the journals by approximately 40%.

"Over the past few years, our subscribers have shown a clear and
increasing preference for online subscriptions over print, and
the vast majority of readers demonstrate the same preference for
accessing journal articles," said Mike Fenton, VP and Director of
Global Operations at Wiley-Blackwell. He added "We have been
exploring a number of ways in which to continue serving the needs
of customers who still want to receive print, while
supportingfurther developments in an online dominated environment
for journals."

Market research has shown that libraries that continue to take
print often do so for archival purposes or to best accommodate
VAT or other national tax requirements. This new print layout,
where two moderately condensed pages of content can fit alongside
one another on each printed page, enables Wiley-Blackwell to
continue to meet this need while printing less overall. The
online versions of individual articles remain unchanged.

For 2010, issues in the following journals from life science,
social science, and medicine will adopt this condense and rotate
printing approach:

Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems
Ecology of Freshwater Fish
Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental
Hydrological Processes
International Journal of Non Profit & Voluntary Sector Marketing
International Journal of Selection and Assessment
International Journal of Tourism Research
Plant Breeding
River Research and Applications
Social Development
