With apologies for cross-posting For Immediate Release Cambridge 24th June 2009, Cambridge, England, UK & New York, USA Cambridge University Press has again hit a high in the recent Thomson Reuters 2008 Journal Citation Reports(r) (JCR) with CUP titles Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Development and Psychopathology, International Organization and Microscopy and Microanalysis, all ranked as number 1 in their categories. Cambridge journals have outperformed many of their competitors with an average increase in Impact Factor of almost 20%, set against an average increase of 11.8% across all categories in both the SCI and SSCI. These strong performances are consistent across our publishing programme. Cambridge's Humanities and Social Science journals have an average increase of 24% against a 9.5% increase in the SSCI, and the Science, Technology and Medicine journals increased by 17% in comparison to a 12.7% increase in the SCI. Over a quarter of Cambridge journals ranked appear within the top 10 of their categories and 12 journals are placed in the top 5 in their categories including Psychological Medicine and Quarterly Reviews of Biophysics in the SCI and in the SSCI, The Journal of Modern African Studies and The Journal of African History. Cambridge Journals indexed in the JCR for the first time included Animal: The International Journal of Animal Biosciences, published for The Animal Consortium, Journal of K-Theory, published for Independent Scholarly Online and Print Publishing, Journal of Southeast Asian Studies published for the History Department, National University of Singapore, and Neuron Glia Biology. High Performances from Individual Journals In the SSCI, the Impact Factor of Bilingualism: Language and Cognition rose to 2.049; a massive 171% increase compared with an average rise of 10.9% for journals in the Linguistics category. The Journal of Modern African Studies demonstrated a rise of 162% to an Impact Factor of 1.041, compared with an average rise of 18.9% for in the Area Studies category. In the SCI, three journals in particular saw considerable increases in their Impact Factors. Quarterly Reviews of Biophysics rose by 61% to 12.188 compared with an average increase in Biophysics of 4.3%. The Journal of Laryngology & Otology gained an Impact Factor of 0.796 - an increase of 59% compared to an average increase of 13.8% in the Otorhinolaryngology category. Finally, AI Edam increased its impact factor to 0.477 an increase of 71% compared to an average of 39.5% in the category, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence.
