For Immediate Release ASCE Delivers Civil Engineering Research Faster with Preview Manuscripts - Publishing Journal Articles Online Six Months Ahead of Print Reston, VA (May 2009) -- The American Society of Civil Engineers now publishes accepted journals' author manuscripts electronically, at authors' discretion, within 72 hours of acceptance before the final, copyedited version appears online and in print. Benefiting authors, readers, and researchers, Preview Manuscripts provides the latest civil engineering research available at least six months before the final copyedited version is published. These peer-reviewed manuscripts are citable technical resources and accessible to ASCE journals subscribers at www.ascelibrary.org. They are also available for single article sale. "Publishing author manuscripts ahead of print shortens the turnaround time of a technical paper from its acceptance to publication by six months or more," said Bruce Gossett, Managing Director of ASCE Publications, "This initiative not only publishes authors' research more quickly, but also ensure much faster public access to the newest civil engineering research science. It also allows readers to enjoy a largely expanded online database of civil engineering information." Preview Manuscripts are citable by their official publication date and unique DOI. Abstracts of accepted manuscripts are searchable at www.ascelibrary.org and full text in PDF file format is downloadable on the journal's Preview Manuscripts page. After a technical paper has been published in print, the original manuscript is still available to subscribers. For more information on ASCE's Preview Manuscripts initiative, please visit http://pubs.asce.org/journals/pap/. The ASCE Online Research Library is a full-text database containing more than 45,000 journal articles from all 31 ASCE journals (1983 to the present), and 21,000 proceedings papers from 190 ASCE conference proceedings. Coverage includes all disciplines of civil engineering research and its practical application.
