The Archaeology of the Americas Digital Monograph Initiative, a new collaboration among six university presses who are jointly creating a digital prototype and platform for scholarly books on New World archaeology topics, is currently seeking a Project Manager. This position is fully funded for one year by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation with further funding possible. The Project Manager's responsibilities will include development of a strategic plan for implementation as well as consultation with archaeologists, learned societies, digital platform and repository hosts, and computer programmers. The goal is for the Project Manager to develop a sustainable business plan for a digital monograph prototype with guidance from the participating press staff members. The Project Manager will be expected to create a final report and implementation plan, with budget, for submission to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, highly motivated self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills. A working knowledge of archaeology, publishing, or computer programming or development is required, and experience in more than one of these areas is highly desired. A Bachelor's degree is required. This initiative is a collaborative venture of the University Press of Colorado, Texas A&M University Press, the University of Alabama Press, the University of Arizona Press, the University Press of Florida, and the University of Utah Press. The Project Manager will be accountable to this group, but the position will report directly to the University Press of Colorado. The position will ideally be based in Boulder, Colorado, although telecommuting may be an option. The University Press of Colorado is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Review of applications will begin on June 1, 2009, and the position will remain open until filled.
