Project Euclid Appoints Mira Waller as Project Manager

DURHAM, NC, USA--Project Euclid, the premier online information
community for mathematics and statistics resources from
independent and society publishers, is delighted to announce the
appointment of Mira Waller as Project Euclid Manager.

Ms. Waller possesses an MLS and comes to Project Euclid from the
Duke University Medical Center Library and Archives, where she
was Assistant Director of Archives. In her new role as Project
Euclid Manager, she will act as an advocate for both Project
Euclid's partner publishers and the larger library community to
ensure that clear communication is maintained, and excellent
customer service is extended, and that the different needs of
both these audiences are represented with regard to future
developments of the Project Euclid platform. Additionally, she
will be instrumental in growing the number of partner publishers=
that participate in Project Euclid and in expanding Project
Euclid's subscriber base to increase global exposure for the
growing number of journals, monographs, and conference
proceedings.

"I am excited by Project Euclid's capacity for advancing
scholarly communications in a sustainable, user-centered, and
affordable model," commented Ms. Waller about joining the Project
Euclid team. "I look forward to working with Project Euclid's
publishers, libraries, and users to further enhance and develop
Project Euclid to ensure that it continues to meet their needs in
this rapidly evolving landscape of scholarly communications and=
digital content."

This is a newly created position based at Duke University Press,
resulting from the recently announced Joint Venture Agreement
between Cornell University Library and Duke University Press.
Terry Ehling, Director of the Center for Innovative Publishing,
Cornell University Library, will continue to be responsible for
program oversight, acquisitions, and coordination of Cornell's
role in the venture.

The Cornell University Library is one of the ten largest research
libraries in North America. Its holdings exceed 7.5 million

communication for the physical sciences and mathematics. In
addition to Project Euclid, the Library operates the physics
e-print server, arXiv, the first and still the most important
example of open access to current scientific research. The
Library's early digitization of 576 mathematics monographs (1991)
served as the basis of their participation in a collaborative
NSF-supported project involving the University of Michigan
Library and the Goettingen State and University Library to develop
an interoperable digital collection. For more information, please
