The University of Michigan, University Library, seeks an Electronic Resources Unit Coordinator to assume both a leadership and liaison role in working with staff from all areas of the Library to enhance access to electronic resources. The Coordinator will provide support for the cataloging, acquisition, processing, and maintenance of electronic resources, will communicate with staff from throughout the Library on issues related to electronic resources, and will participate in library-wide efforts to connect users with electronic resources. This position will report to the Head of Technical Services. Further information may be found at www.lib.umich.edu/hr/employment/eruc.html RESPONSIBILITIES Applies creative thinking, experience, technical expertise, and knowledge of the information needs of users to the provision of access to electronic resources. Participates in the ongoing design and development of library-wide systems, workflows, and policies for managing electronic resources. Develops policies, analyzes processes, and facilitates workflow and communication among the Technical Services unites responsible for acquiring, licensing, cataloging, and maintaining access to electronic resources. Collaborates with the Electronic Resources Officer to coordinate the selection and processing of electronic resources. Works with the ERO as well as staff in Public Services, Collection Development, and the Scholarly Publishing Office in the creation of cross-departmental policies used to manage electronic resources. Participates in the implementation of an Electronic Resource Management system. Monitors trends in emerging technologies, copyright, and licensing. Keeps current with developments in electronic products and services, including the use of open source software to manage electronic resources. QUALIFICATIONS Required: ALA accredited Masters Degree in Library or Information Science; three to five (3-5) years of experience in a large academic library; ability to work collaboratively in a complex, culturally diverse organizational setting; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated analytical skills; knowledge of and/or experience in the management of electronic resources; knowledge of electronic services and Web environments; knowledge of contemporary practices, issues, and trends for managing electronic resources. Desired: Experience working with federated search tools, open URL access, link resolvers, Electronic Resource Management systems, e-cataloging standards, non-MARC metadata, vendor supplied bibliographic records. Conversant with basic techniques for local digitization and management of information resources, including the methods for maintaining an institutional repository. BENEFITS, RANK, and SALARY Rank is anticipated at Associate or Sr. Associate Librarian. Final rank and salary are dependent on qualifications and experience. (This position, however, may be filled at the Assistant, Associate, Senior Associate, or full Librarian level.) Professional positions receive 24 days of vacation a year and 15 days of sick leave a year with provisions for extended benefits as well as opportunities for professional development and travel.
