Nigerian science journal off to quick start on Scholarly Exchange's free journal publishing platform Kaduna State University (Nigeria) has just released the second issue of its pioneering journal www.scienceworldjournal.com, covering the natural and physical sciences with a special focus on computer modeling and bioinformatics. Launched recently with the help of Scholarly Exchange and its free journal startup program, the open-access journal provides fast publication for cutting-edge research across the sciences. The managing editor, Prof. A. B. Ahmed commented that Scholarly Exchange's help from the outset provided a quick launch and the ability to produce rapidly. Since SWJ joined the SE family in December 2006, Kaduna State has already published two issues on schedule. "Working with SE has reduced the frustrations of many potential authors and the founding editors," he added. Prof. Ahmed further noted that the Open Journal Systems software "is a desirable technology for authors and publishers to accelerate the publication of articles and accessibility to literature: the manuscript submission, management and review processes are first class." ----- Not-for-profit Scholarly Exchange, Inc. has eliminated one major obstacle for open access journals by providing a free and fully supported e-publishing platform. Combining Open Journal Systems public-domain software with complete hosting and support, this new service offers scholars unrivaled freedom and flexibility to produce academic journals and at a price that fosters the open access model. Scholarly Exchange offsets its costs by keyword-relevant on-screen Google advertising. Revenues exceeding the basic support threshold of $750 yearly are shared with each journal, to help defray editorial costs. Journals wishing to maintain an advertising-free environment or sell their own advertising sponsorship may pre-pay the technology cost. Participating journals retain all rights to their metadata and content and may charge submission or publication fees to help defray editorial costs. Scholarly Exchange plays no role in the creation of the information or its ultimate ownership. It serves as a facilitator for open access journals rather than a traditional publisher. The platform provides options for OAI harvesting and LOCKSS compliance. The Scholarly Exchange website offers editors valuable information resources to help with archiving, ultra-low-cost tagging/data conversion, and short-run/print-on-demand services commercially available. SE is an IRS-registered and -approved 501 (c) 3 public charity corporation with offices in Brookline, MA.
