ALA Annual Conference 2007 IN WASHINGTON D.C. The RUSA-CODES Collection Development Policies and Assessment Committee Presents: We Have the Data, Now What?": Putting Your Collection Assessment Data to Work Collection assessment initiatives can consume vast amounts of resources, time, and energy; hence, library administrators should seek to produce tangible results with the data they collect. Many libraries gather assessment data, but drop the ball when it comes to analysis and the use of data to inform significant collection management decisions. The goal of this panel discussion is to highlight successful projects that have made use of collection assessment data in significant and innovative ways. This program will take a pragmatic approach to collection assessment, focusing on its transformative potential. Location information: Renaissance Washington DC: Renaissance Ballroom East Date: Saturday, 6/23/2007 Time: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM Panel Moderator: Steven M. Adams, Biological and Life Science Librarian Princeton University Panel Presentations: * Collection Assessment: What a Director Finds Useful Assessment and analysis tools support fine-grained views of collections and services and assist library administrators in making decisions that are backed by data. This presentation will cover broad-stroke tools that are useful at the director's level. The broad political uses of OCLC's Collection Analysis and LibQual+ tools will be covered. Shirley Baker, Vice Chancellor for Scholarly Resources and Dean of Libraries, Washington University * How journal use-statistics influence collections decisions at Owen Science & Engineering Library. Owen Science and Engineering Library has been collecting continuous statistics on use of its journals (both print and online) for 11 years. This presentation will cover how these statistics are used to make decisions about the journal collection. Betty Galbraith, Science Librarian Washington State University * How Data is Driving the Decision Making with JSTOR titles at the Oklahoma State University Library The Oklahoma State University Library is facing the challenge of dwindling shelf space for library collections. A recent facilities study indicates that the main OSU library is filled beyond its recommended capacity. This presentation will describe their effort to recover shelf space in the main library using a study of the bound journals that are available in their JSTOR collections. The findings have yielded data sets that are being utilized in strategic planning initiatives for their collections. Karen Neurohr, Assessment Librarian Oklahoma State University ****
