News Release: African Arts Goes Online

News Release
New from The MIT Press: African Arts Online
February 6, 2007

MIT Press Journals is pleased to announce that African Arts, a
journal recognized for its high caliber visuals and descriptive
critical writing, is available online beginning with its Spring
issue (40:1). African Arts, founded in 1967, will now join the
rest of MIT Press' journals in offering electronic content.

African Arts will maintain high resolution images in electronic
format; there are future plans to introduce audio and video clips
to enhance written content and bring its kinetic images to life.
As of May 2006, back issues of the journal through 2001 are
available on the electronic archiving service JSTOR as part of
their Arts and Sciences Complement collection. The MIT Press will
be making access to African Arts back issues possible for
individuals for an additional $25 on top of your annual print
subscription to the journal.

In the new digital format, current issues will be available to
subscribers and library patrons in searchable electronic format,
providing numerous benefits to readers while reaching a wider
scope of people worldwide with its multi-faceted form and
increased availability. For no additional cost, subscribers can
view a digital version of their printed issue through the MIT
Press Journals website (http://www.mitpressjournals.org/loi/afar
). Prospective subscribers now have an opportunity to purchase an
online-only subscription for a slightly reduced cost, a combined
print/digital subscription, or a single essay (pay-per-view). The
MIT Press publishes each of its 34 journals in electronic form,
and will provide the same high quality presentation and easily
navigable structure for African Arts.

The new electronic chapter for African Arts is a critical step
towards ensuring the journal's posterity, its accessibility for
future readers, and its vitality within the expanding world of
electronic publishing.
