News Release New from The MIT Press: African Arts Online February 6, 2007 MIT Press Journals is pleased to announce that African Arts, a journal recognized for its high caliber visuals and descriptive critical writing, is available online beginning with its Spring issue (40:1). African Arts, founded in 1967, will now join the rest of MIT Press' journals in offering electronic content. African Arts will maintain high resolution images in electronic format; there are future plans to introduce audio and video clips to enhance written content and bring its kinetic images to life. As of May 2006, back issues of the journal through 2001 are available on the electronic archiving service JSTOR as part of their Arts and Sciences Complement collection. The MIT Press will be making access to African Arts back issues possible for individuals for an additional $25 on top of your annual print subscription to the journal. In the new digital format, current issues will be available to subscribers and library patrons in searchable electronic format, providing numerous benefits to readers while reaching a wider scope of people worldwide with its multi-faceted form and increased availability. For no additional cost, subscribers can view a digital version of their printed issue through the MIT Press Journals website (http://www.mitpressjournals.org/loi/afar ). Prospective subscribers now have an opportunity to purchase an online-only subscription for a slightly reduced cost, a combined print/digital subscription, or a single essay (pay-per-view). The MIT Press publishes each of its 34 journals in electronic form, and will provide the same high quality presentation and easily navigable structure for African Arts. The new electronic chapter for African Arts is a critical step towards ensuring the journal's posterity, its accessibility for future readers, and its vitality within the expanding world of electronic publishing.
