FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HIGHWIRE PRESS LAUNCHES ITS 1,000TH JOURNAL SITE (Stanford, CA) November 27, 2006 -- http://highwire.stanford.edu HighWire Press celebrates a milestone today with the launch of its 1000th journal site, the Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society. The Society has been publishing mathematical research papers since 1865, now with the assistance of Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press, one of HighWire's premier publishing partners. "Reaching 1000 journals on HighWire is an exciting achievement. Beginning with several high-impact science and medicine journals in 1995, we now offer an affordable and customizable online home to journals from all disciplines," said John Sack, Director of HighWire Press. "We are very pleased to welcome the London Mathematical Society to our online environment and especially to the collaborative community of scholarly publishers that work with HighWire." The mission of HighWire Press, a division of the Stanford University Libraries, is to help not-for-profit societies, university presses, and other scholarly publishers produce quality Internet versions of high-impact journals and research information. The HighWire program is growing dramatically, having started with online access to the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 1995, followed by Science, PNAS and other top ranked journals. HighWire now produces the definitive online version of 1000 journals in the spheres of science, social science, and the humanities as well as online reference works, databases, books, and other scholarly content. "HighWire Press have established themselves as the best online host for academic content, and continue to provide us with an impressive level of service," said Catherine Morgan, Editor, Maths and Physical Sciences, Oxford Journals. "The Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society is among the world's leading mathematical research periodicals, and from 2007 HighWire will be hosting the journal's entire archive, dating back to 1865, allowing seamless searching of over 150 years of important mathematical research." Publishers select HighWire to produce and host their content because, in addition to offering technological expertise, HighWire has assembled a strong community of scholarly publishers who meet regularly to share ideas, innovations, and results from their publishing experiments. HighWire's unparalleled commitment to service provides publishers with a true partner to consult with about all aspects of online publishing. HighWire offers support and services that are affordable for publishers of all sizes. "HighWire-hosted publishers don't feel like they have to 'go it alone' as they move ahead with editorial, business and technology experiments and decisions. Even societies that publish a single journal can find strength and knowledge in numbers," says Sack. HighWire extends an invitation to celebrate this milestone with a toast at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29th at the HighWire Press and Partners Stand #228 at the Online Information 2006 conference & exhibit at the Olympia Grand Hall in London.
