Ginny Foley Public Relations Manager Blackwell Publishing 1-781-388-8334 vfoley@bos.blackwellpublishing.com Blackwell Publishing and the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society to Launch New Journal Mind, Brain, and Education Marks the First of its Kind in Revolutionary Field Boston, Massachusetts, November 6, 2006-Blackwell Publishing, the world's largest society publisher, has announced that it has formed a publishing partnership with the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society (IMBES), a leading society for researchers, faculty, and educators. In partnership with Blackwell, IMBES will launch Mind, Brain, and Education, a new journal dedicated to multidisciplinary research in biology, cognitive science, and education. The premiere issue of the quarterly journal will be published in March 2007. "This is the first scholarly journal to focus on cutting-edge research linking brain, cognitive, and education science," said Kurt Fischer, Professor, Harvard Graduate School of Education and Editor-in-Chief, Mind, Brain, and Education. "Our new partnership with Blackwell represents a major step forward in meeting the Society's goal of building a strong scientific base for education in biology and cognitive science and developing relevant resources for scientists, educators, public policy makers, and the general public." The recent spread of "Brain-Based" educational practices and the emphasis on "Research-Based" curricula are two examples of the need for a dynamic and respected peer-review resource in this important area. This journal will provide an impetus for scientifically-solid, educationally-relevant research connecting mind, brain, and education, catalyzing the kinds of relationships that are essential to improving research-based practice in education. Accordingly, Mind, Brain, and Education will bring together experts from every scientific field involved in this new discipline. The journal will select and publish the most important papers in basic and applied research on learning and development, including analyses from biology, cognitive science, and education. The first issues will include articles from high-profile authors, including Antonio Damasio, Stanilas Dehaene, Howard Gardner, Elena Grigorenko, Laura-Ann Petitto, and Robert Plomin. "Blackwell is pleased to partner with the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society on such an exciting new area of scholarship," said Gordon Tibbitts, President, Blackwell Publishing Inc. "The launch of this journal is timely and should quickly become a force in the world of education and science." Members of IMBES receive a subscription to the journal as a benefit of their affiliation with the society. About the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society The International Mind, Brain, and Education Society (IMBES) facilitates cross-cultural collaboration in all fields that are relevant to productively connecting biology, cognitive science, and education in research, theory, and practice. The Society's principal goal is to foster dynamic relations between neuroscience, genetics, cognitive science, development, and education so that each field benefits from and influences work in the others, including the questions asked, phenomena addressed, and methods employed.
