The acquisition of Brandywine Press complements Blackwell's North American history list and adds 55 higher education history books to Blackwell's publishing portfolio. "Blackwell has a long background of providing the academic community with a comprehensive collection of high-quality history books," said Steve Smith, Editorial Director, Blackwell Publishing. "This acquisition enables us to expand our list in a range of important areas, including civil rights and African-American history, immigration, women's history, and a number of areas in 19th and 20th century American history, and provide must-have information to students and specialists." The addition of these books supports Blackwell's efforts to expand its presence in American history. Blackwell recently recruited an Executive Editor dedicated exclusively to the development of this field in the higher education market. Blackwell Publishing will take over the imprint of Brandywine Press effective immediately.
